TD Canada Trust update
So…I called the manager at our local branch to let him know what had happened. Spoke, at first, to the person that had done all of the paperwork and so on … he expressed concern, and said that they would call TD Waterhouse and try to sort it out, find out what happened, etc…and then the manager would call me right back.
he did, about an hour later (a miracle in itself) - but I ended up hanging up on him … he was absolutely insistant on LYING - claiming that he had had a conversation with my husband during which my husband had directed him to have the money put into the RRSP and that is how the paperwork had been done - neither of which is true.
THEN he claimed that we were only eligible to take 2.9% each year without withholding…which is in fact true …but that is all AFTER the initial 25% withdrawal which is all we were ever trying to do.
I wound up hanging up on him in frustration - he was SO not listening to me, and was obviously intent on revising history to make it all our fault rather than the banks.
SO MUCH BULLSHIT.
S., the person that we were dealing with ALWAYS knew that the money was going to the line of credit - he, in fact, had offered to cover the interest on the van we purchased on the line of credit until this $$ came through, as it was their fault it had taken so long and we did not have the $$ to cover the van.
And the conversation with the manager was on the phone, and I was sitting right there - when my husband told G. that the money was to go onto the line of credit and that we only wanted it moved if it was still true that there would not be a tax hit (since we were worried that, because of the delay, it was too late).
On the plus side, I did receive an email response from TD Customer Service which says:
Thank you for writing to us.
I am sorry to learn of your experience with TD Waterhouse. I can certainly understand your displeasure and apologize for any inconvenience caused.
I have forwarded your email to the Regional Customer Care Representative, who will ensure that your concerns are further reviewed and that a response is provided to you.
Your feedback is important to us. Thank you for taking the time to bring your concerns to our attention.
We shall see.

Keep pushing it up the line. Don’t stop pushing until they MAKE IT RIGHT.
People let business get away with just short of murder. That shouldn’t happen and, if it isn’t rectified, I would definitely bring this to the attention of government and/or media.
That’s good that you wrote a letter. I hope it is resolved quickly.
