Hey … it’s official

Posted by flit on Apr 16, 2009 in Uncategorized |

I too am a today.com reject!

We understand that you are unhappy blogging with Today.com. As such we
will be closing out your account for you. Your blog earnings to date
will be sent to you in the next pay cycle.

We want to thank you for trying out Today.com and are sorry the
program has not lived up to your expectations. We certainly wish you
the best in your future endeavors.

Sincerely,
Today.com Support

I would probably care if I wasn’t a) in very good company and b) quite sure that - as my predictions about their ~future directions~ have been pretty much right on the money so far - it is pretty much a non-issue now anyway - or soon will be.

Ah, welcome to the club! At least yours was more personalized…mine was “you no longer fit with our blogging needs” although they continued to pay me the $1 per post which was rare at that point and gave zero warning.

we should make a club. Like on gather and different places of those ousted from Today.com for no good reason.

They kicked me out while I was checking my stats.
I should know better. Mom always said if it seems too good to be true it probably is.
Today is a dishonest company.
It was all planned. Drop Entrecard, drop users for low traffic, and when people said WTF? drop their accounts. If that is not shady I dont know what is!
Make sure to copy your blog so you have all the hard work you did.

I will happily add you to my rejects list on http://justflitting.blogspot.com if you like :)

I don’t know that they planned it all. But I think that things are desperate and that at this point they see everyone they kick out as a savings.

Several of us have tossed around the idea of starting a group site of ex-today bloggers. Would have 2 purposes. 1 to annoy them and 2 to be a source of backlinks to our new sites. If people are interested I could set one up.

It certainly seems that the Today.com exiles are a hugely growing demographic lately. They must be so proud.

I think a group of celebratory exiles would be loads of fun. If nothing else, we could show that we’ve learned how to do our blogs better, now that the shackles are off.

And yes — traffic! :-)

P.S. - At least you got paid. I think they were so irritated at how I “improved” my blog before I left that I’ll never see that last $25 they owe me. Ha!

I’m headed over to Just Flitting to see about that list. :-P I got no e-mail or anything from them; was logged in this morning, then couldn’t get in this afternoon.

Let me know if anything further goes on with the group site of ex-today.com bloggers. I’d thought about it myself— rentedmules.choseit.com maybe, LOL! At least Choseit.com supports bloggers, interacts with them and LISTENS to them.

A Google blog search has turned up several other whacked bloggers. :-( Some of them, I seriously can’t believe got “fired”! Has anyone heard from Hava? Did she have another blog? I’m wondering if they nailed everyone that participated in the “Well, that was fun while it lasted” thread over the last day or so. Is there something all the expats have in common?

This rots. :-(

Hey, when I get a new blog, you can add me to the list. I got locked out of my accounts today, too. Seems that anyone who offered a hint of disagreement got axed. Nice place they’re running there.

They kicked me too, I am building a blogroll/ page of all today.com victims, check my blog and spread the word so that not more people fall in the today.com trap! SY

Hey Flit, This really sucks so much. It really makes me sad to see good people axed just for asking questions and stating their opinions. Things are eerily quiet on the forums now…

I got the email saying that lost my PPP yesterday (I was not shocked seeing that blogs that were 100 times more successful than mine had lost it, too). I did ask if I decided to leave if I would get all my earnings even if it was below $50. They said no, they would be forfeited. Wouldn’t you know I’m at $40 and some change right now? My PPP ends tomorrow, so it stinks that it will take me awhile to hit the payout mark.

[...] two, with a list of those who have been liberated from that nasty place. (In the meantime, go visit Flit’s blog, where some of us are making our voices [...]

I have put it up here: http://hospitalera.com/kicked-from-todaycom/
I will not add anybody without permission, so please shoot me a comment if you are interested in a bit of mutual blog support. SY

I’ve thought they were a bunch of idiots since they started with “wah, wah, I’m using my life savings for this”, “wah, wah, if you don’t like it tough”. Every time they get a good group of bloggers they shoot them down, chew them up and spit them out. Probably some of the worst managment I’ve seen when you rely on the happiness of your bloggers for high quality content. “Hi welcome to my wonderful, interesting blog, want to buy a toaster?”

Subversive from the inside until I get exciled too….

I even offered, for FREE, to help moderate the forums, critique blogs for SEO, approve payments, etc., and was told, “thanks, but no thanks, focus on getting advertisers”. This is why I focus on useless traffic in an effort to up my PPM earnings. I am sure I will be shot down soon, surprised it hasn’t already happened.

I’ll be surprised - EXTREMELY surprised - if they last another month

who knows. If they keep closing out bloggers, they will still get all the traffic from their posts that are archived and not have to pay anyone for anything. Kind of a good deal for them, actually. As I said, very poor business practices…
Can someone really set up a group blog network? I’d join and throw my today blogs to the wind.

Wow, sounds like Today.com really sucks. I’m so happy that I never joined the site when I was looking into it some time back. Would have been a waste of time by the look of things. Sheesh!

I sound like a broken record — and forget where I’ve said this — but if people who are kicked out have links on their Td.c blogs to photos on their Flickr account — go and either make those photos private, or delete them and them re-upload them (so the links won’t work any more). Do NOT let them make money from your property that they haven’t gotten permission to use!

So, do you think if I ask they will close my account and give me the $27 I have earned? I was going to wait until I reached $50 before leaving.

flit
Apr 19, 2009 at 9:47 am

I wouldn’t count on anything from them either way …. me, I would have stuck around and continued blogging with them while I was getting my new blogs up and running…. they took that choice away ….but in any event, my impression is that Dave is now viewing every payment they make as food off of his family’s table… seems to me that they are looking for any and all excuses not to pay anyone anything at all ….

at this point, I would consider anything you do for them likely to be volunteer work :) If you get paid, bonus… but it would be foolish to count on it.

I’m working my butt off to get to $50 so I can tell them to jam it. My blogs might not be the most popular ones there, but I’d think I deserve support when I ask for assistance regardless. And I’ve had an issue with the appearance of one of my blogs for over a week now - and I keep getting “we’ll look into it”.

If Today.com lasts six months - I’ll be amazed.

Best of luck in your other blogging pursuits!

At least for now, anyway.

Well they didn’t go for it :) I guess I’m there for a while.

I was a little offended by the new post from the admin today. Part of it said… “We feel if it is not your goal for your blog to make more than $50 in a month or two than perhaps Today.com is not the network for you. We are looking for people whose goals are in line with ours, working beyond the minimum to get the maximum returns.” I have been doing this for 6 months and I am just at $30. I don’t know what else I could do to make $50 a month of a PPV plan.

I think that if you actually found a way, given the many uvs that they no longer pay for, that would be a miracle….AND they would find a reason to exile you too.

if you just stop posting, they SAY they pay you whatever is owed and close out your account… that would seem to me to be the best approach … just don’t post anything for $30 days

Susan Keeping
Apr 20, 2009 at 7:52 pm

But they told me in an email today that if I don’t post for 30 days I will forfeit the money I have made and they can give my blog to someone else.

Susan, they really are not playing fair at all; I’m sorry

Yeah, I’m over $40, so it’s hard to walk away from that after working so hard. I do wonder now if they mess with the stats. When I started my second blog, I watched the stats real close. A lot of people who visited my first blog went to my new one and left comments. I asked in the forums how I could have more comments than UV’s. They finally answered and said the UV’s stats are not live. Okay, I can understand that, but for two whole days I had more comments than UV’s? It’s pathetic and sad. There are so many people who stuck up for them and really tried to make it work.

flit
Apr 20, 2009 at 10:11 pm

they are DEFINITELY fudging the stats…. link referral, for example, went from counting to TOTALLY DISAPPEARED … without so much as a word

$2/ppm is a joke… I’m SURE they disabled adsense so that we coudn’t see the discrepancies.

Know what is funny is that I still haven’t gotten the e-mail and I did take From Huskies to Husbands elsewhere - I just didn’t bother telling them!!

When I considered quitting I was told that I would forfeit my earnings. So for the moment I am staying. I need another $20 in earnings to reach the payout level, and I don’t have much hope of reaching that before they go out of business. However, I am having fun with my blog. If anyone were to take a close look at my blogroll I am sure I would be kicked out in a minute!
I’ve also turned off most of my comment moderation so the spammers are having fun.
We will see how far this can go before I am booted!
